FilmCraft:Editing and FilmCraft: Cinematography are now available!
By Scott Berman
We won’t often blatantly push Focal Press books here at MasteringFilm… the idea is simply to give you useful information. But we’re REALLY excited about these FilmCraft books, so we can’t help but gush.
The FilmCraft series offers deep insights from the best in the business in a stunning visual format. The first releases in the series, ‘FilmCraft: Editing’ by Justin Chang and ‘FilmCraft: Cinematography,’ by Tim Grierson and Mike Goodridge, each offer deep insight into the working practices of the world’s most distinguished professionals, covering their inspiration, collaboration, and work on set. The result is to provide you with a fascinating inside look at the filmmaking art, and a wealth of knowledge that you can apply to your own work.
The editors and cinematographers featured in these two books are true visionaries in their fields. Many are Oscar winners, and their films include Apocalypse Now, Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan, Inception, There Will Be Blood, and countless others.
Here are excepts from both books:
FilmCraft: Editing excerpt on Lee Smith, who edited Inception and The Dark Knight. The excerpt is here.
FilmCraft: Cinematography excerpt on Vittorio Storaro, who was the Cinematographer for Apocalypse Now, Reds, and The Last Emporer (he won Oscars for all three). The excerpt is here.
