Interviews

Five Minutes with Comedy Genius Steve Skrovan

We figured Steve Skrovan, the multi-hyphenate producer-actor- writer- director-comedian, would have some insights for our readers, and we certainly were correct on that front.

My favorite movie is Dr. Strangelove, a funny, biting satire on a big subject that is still relevant 50 years later.

The most important quality in a filmmaker is… the ability to tell a story where scene by scene, the audience wants to know what happens next.

What gets me out of bed in the morning is… an intense urge to urinate.

My favorite director is…Billy Wilder, who was also a writer and could make an intense drama like Stalag 17 and a farce comedy like Some Like It Hot.

My dream project is…a Dr. Strangelove -type satire that deals with the first time the CIA overthrew another government, Mohammed Mossedeq, the democratically elected prime minister of Iran in 1953.

My favorite movie snack is…peanut M&Ms.

The unsung heroes of the filmmaking business are…the caterers.  Nothing can ruin a movie set faster than bad craft service.  It’s key to morale.  The army marches on its stomach, to paraphrase that famous French director, Napoleon Bonaparte.
